"You can take that to the bank, it is etched in stone."
Recently this old phrase has been on my mind. Its definition is to utterly trust, believe, or rely on.
It is an obscure reference to a check which one could take to the bank and receive to cash in exchange.
So often this is not true, as when you are not a regular customer of that bank, or you don't have adequate ID.
Fortunately, the one place that this phrase is always true is with God.
Whatever you learn from His word, you can take to the bank. It is always true, always welcome and always available. There are many promises in the Bible and each one is a solemn promise from our Lord and Savior.
Jesus said, "...And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age." Mt. 28:20 NIV
God told Joshua, "...I will never leave you nor forsake you." Jos1:5b NIV
In Isaiah God says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire you will not be burned, the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God,..."
Isa 43:2-3 NIV
In Isaiah God also tells us, "But those who hope in the Lord, will renew their strength, they will soar on wings like eagles: they will run and not be weary, they will walk and not faint."
Isa 40:31 NIV
And in 2 Corinthians we are told," We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed, perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down but not destroyed." 2Cor 4:8-9 NIV
Always, God's promises are there to reassure us of his presence, and believe me, you can take that to the bank. No ID required, but the blood of Jesus.
