October 24, 2020: Gratitude or Attitude - Jack Brisendine

Updated: Oct 27, 2020

A good Attitude will determine your Altitude

When you take mental account of your life, occupation, family, friends, church, or health, what do you say? Do you express gratitude or attitude? There is a higher plane (level of dignity, character, existence) that God has set out for each and every one of us. Did you know that?

My experience has been that if we choose the higher road over the low road, our lives will be full and rich, and filled with God’s Love and Power. Think of the good Samaritan who crossed over the road to the other side to assist someone who had fallen into a tough situation. He chose the higher road of love and caring. God cheers on, dwells in, and rewards the ones who choose His “Higher way of living”. Wouldn’t we all like someone to choose the High Road for us when we are in need of caring? We have heard the Golden Rule to do unto others as we would like them do unto us. That is God’s desire for our lives. Amen

Do we daily praise God or grumble? I have done both. Do we make excuses, blame God, or even the devil for our situation in life? I have heard people give reasons for their negative outlook; a lack of a loving childhood, their environment, being raised on the wrong side of the tracks, they had only one parent around, bad health, physical or mental infirmities.  Maybe you have had a lot of trials and tribulations. Have you claimed that others have been handed good looks, wealth, nice homes and educational opportunities? Do you think Apostle Paul was good looking? It is hard to know, but some have reason to believe he was homely and common. I'm telling you I would have a difficult time finding someone who did more to move along Christ’s work than Paul, other than Christ himself! I have known and been around persons with Downs Syndrome. We could learn from them how to love and show affection and a good attitude! With God’s help we have no excuses for bad attitudes. Amen

Some scripture for thought:

"So the LORD said to Solomon, “Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates." 1 Kings 11:11 (NIV)

5 "May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, 6 so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." Romans 15:5-6 (NIV)

12 "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)

1"Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin." 1 Peter 4:1 (NIV)

22 "You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." Ephesians 4:22-24 (NIV)

9 "But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (NIV)

Let's all determine to show our Lord Gratitude in our Attitude to raise our Altitude. Amen
