“He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.” Psalm 23:3b

One of the greatest responsibilities of a shepherd is to keep his flock on the move. They cannot stay in the same place; this keeps them from over grazing in the same place. They are shifted from pasture to pasture periodically so that they do not eat up all the food in one place.

A shepherd has a plan of action and he follows that plan. A shepherd knows his pastures, every advantage and every draw back, and this is what David had in mind when he spoke the words . . . “guide me along the right paths.” David trusted his owner just like sheep trust their shepherd.

Sometimes we are like sheep. We want our own way, we are stubborn. Isaiah 53:6 says “We all, like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way.” Unfortunately, we tend to do it over and over again because we think we know what is best for us.

The Good Shepherd comes to us quietly and says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

That is what Jesus wants; He wants us to trust Him and to talk to Him about our life. He wants us to trust and obey Him.

Thank you for being my Good Shepherd and leading me in the right direction. Help me to always trust and obey you.

In Jesus Name, Amen
