March 28, 2020 Who Are You - Jenine Anderson

Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life." Galatians 6:4-5 (MSG)

Reflection

“Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given.” – Do you know who you are? Who you were created to be? Have you taken the time to become self-aware of your Strengths and Spiritual Gifts? Just knowing them isn’t enough. What are you doing about it?

“Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others.” – Run your own race. You don’t have to be like anyone else but yourself. God created you unique with Strengths and Spiritual Gifts that make you unique.

“Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.” – You are free to be yourself and further the Kingdom doing what you do best. Own who you are and be true to yourself. That’s what God wants from each of us.

Growing up, my dad loved the gospel group Brush Arbor. They had a song called “All I Want to Be” that stuck with me all these years. Verse two states:

If we were all like Abraham Or each of us like Paul Some mighty things would go undone For Jesus needs us all It takes a lot of people to carry out God’s plan So He can use me any old day Just the way I am.

And I’m proud to be, exactly what you see A man that’s been made whole since Jesus saved my soul And if He cared to die for someone such as I All I want to be is just me

If you aren’t sure of your Strengths and Spiritual Gifts, Class 301 can help you pinpoint how God made you and what you can do about it. The church app has a link to a Spiritual Gifts assessment you can take from the comfort of your home if you are unaware of them. Talents you were born with can turn into Strengths. Spiritual Gifts are given to you when you become a Christian.

We are commanded to “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31a) – how can we do that if we do not know and love ourselves?
