June 22, 2020 Not Like the Others! Pastor Perry Windecker

“For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence. Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” (Hebrews 9:24-28 NIV)

Reflection

Not like the others, I’m sure we all played this when we were children. We would set in the booth with our parents at a restaurant and occupy ourselves with the pictures on the placemats trying to identify the very minute differences in one of the pictures while waiting for our food.

Christ is not like any of the other priests, but it’s nothing subtle about Him. There is no real comparison. His sanctuary in not made with human hands, but heaven itself. Not the Holy of Holies carved and engraved by skilled craftsman, but the holy presence of God Himself. And it is “once for all at the culmination of the ages.” There will never be any doubt of the real thing, the original, the Christ. The one and only Messiah!

Because of this I have always found it hard to hear people say, "He was just a nice guy, a good teacher, a great prophet". No! He was God with us, the Christ that loved us so much that He died for us and is the one that now sits at the right hand of God still loving us.

There is no other!

How do you see Jesus, as I nice guy, a friend or Lord and Savior?
