“We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we declare God's wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.…
However, as it is written: 'What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived'—the things God has prepared for those who love him—these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person's thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.”
(1 Cor. 2:6-14, NIV)
Bats; yes, the nocturnal flying aerial acrobats of the sky type bats. These are the only flying creature that I know of that can seemingly stop in flight and make a 180 degree turn and still catch the tiniest of bugs that just flew somewhere behind them. They do this by an amazing act of sonar and aerial acrobatics. They can actually hear the echo bouncing off of the tiniest of things, their supper powers of sorts.
I am not saying that the Holy Spirit is our personal super power here, but the passages above, “what no eye has seen…no ear has heard…no mind has conceived” and how they are revealed to us makes me think of some of the other wonders of the world that are so amazing that they seem supernatural.
However, in this case we are actually speaking of the supernatural. The Holy Spirit knowing the things of God and helping us to understand these things that we cannot even conceive –teaching and explaining spiritual realities we cannot hear or see, but revealed to us supernaturally from the Spirit working in us. Let this sink in!
The problem we have comes in the quenching of the Spirit, those acts that we do when not making this midair change in direction to follow the Spirit’s directing. Now I’m not saying that we should not consider consequences, but if the Spirit is leading us and we do not pay attention sooner or later He will stop trying.
“The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.” Therefore, why would we not want to listen to Him? Well, we still are living in a broken world and have many, too many in some cases, distractions. But, if we do listen it is none other than Gods Spirit, His prevenient grace working in us and through us. “This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.” Supernatural? Something that can make us stop midair and change our direction? I say yes!
Are you listening as a bat does for the smallest sound of the Spirit? Or are you doing your day to day life stuff with your heart and ears closed to Him?
