August 20, 2020 - The Depth of God's Love - Jack Brisendine

May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love. May you have the power to understand; how wide, how long, how high, how deep, and how encompassing God’s love really is. May you experience the love of Christ through the Holy Spirit.

"I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, [17] so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, [18] may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, [19] and to know this love that surpasses knowledge---that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God." Ephesians 3:16-19 NIV

This prayer is not asking God for more intellectual knowledge regarding His love, but that we would take action and reach out and take hold of God’s love. Paul’s prayer is that it would really sink in and go from being head knowledge, to heart knowledge, as to how all-encompassing God loves us. It asks that we experience for ourselves the love of Christ. Knowledge isn’t enough. Great speeches, wishful thinking, attending church, or sermons won’t suffice, neither will hearing what the Lord did in someone else’s life. It takes God’s Spirit imparting power in each of us to fathom the depth, length, and width of His incomparable love. God’s amazing love for us has been expressed in Christ Jesus, and the imparting of the Holy Spirit after Jesus’s resurrection. HALLELUJAH!

Just as Paul was praying earnestly for the Ephesian Christians, we are to ask that our roots would go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love. And as we continually pray a life-transforming prayer, we will drink deeply of God’s love. When we receive and experience the love of Christ in our own hearts, His love can flow through us to others.

"The person who does not love does not know God, because God is love." 1 John 4:8 (ISV)

PRAYER: LORD JESUS, I want to experience your love in a deeper way than I ever have before. May your love anchor me as your Spirit causes my spiritual roots to sink deeper in you. Impart to me the ability to understand, and share, the limitless extent of your love. Be the center of my life and reveal yourself to me today! Amen
