April 18, 2020 Does Everything Have to Change? - Lynnette Buck

“In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.” Psalm 102:25-26 (NIV)

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 (NIV)

Reflection

Everything changes. Nothing stays the same. Sometimes is a slow change that we don’t even realize is happening, such as the changes that occur in our bodies over time. For example, we experience wrinkles over time, gain and lose weight slowly and parts of us sag as we get older. However, as we have all experienced in recent weeks, some things can come from nowhere and change things so fast that we don’t even realize what is happening until it is upon us! This can cause fear, anxiety and a number of other emotions in us and those around us.

There were 19 of us from EVNaz who went to Mexico on a Wednesday for a mission trip. While we were there we were so busy that we really only saw news from back home in the evenings in our hotel rooms. There was a lot going on in the U.S. while we were gone. When we returned five days later the country was much different than when we had left. Store shelves were empty, people were beginning to work at home, sports were cancelled and the economy was taking a turn for the worse.

We can be grateful that the Word of God clearly tells us of the One who doesn’t change! “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 (NIV) When everything else changes and fades away we can put our trust and hope in Christ.

As you reflect on Christ never changing even in the present circumstances ask yourself these questions:

What am I putting my hope in?

Is Christ my never changing rock, or am I shifting on the unstable, ever moving and changing sand?

How can I focus more on Christ and less on the circumstances around me and have peace?
